The New Orleans Hornets (now the Pelicans) professional basketball team was established in 2002-2003. Blair Remy Architects completed the concept design for the Hornets new practice facility at Plaza mall to be located at the corner of Plaza Drive and Lake Forest Boulevard, in 2003. Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the franchise temporarily relocated to Oklahoma City, where they spent two seasons, returning to New Orleans full-time for the 2007-08 season and the practice facility was not constructed.
