The concept design for the Children’s Hospital at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is a four-story structure with character compatible with the community of buildings of similar form, style, material and details. The exterior appearance of the Children’s Hospital acknowledges the Health Sciences Design Standards. Brick veneer and custom stone banding as well as all pitched roofs were a few of the design concepts to represent an architecture of compatibility.
The architectural character features a contemporary interpretation of classical elements within the framework of an otherwise very traditional architectural container. Large window walls are included to provide visual access from most of the public spaces to the outdoors, allowing for views and natural lighting.
