The new SAPPER memorial at this U.S. Army training base is to honor the fallen Army combat engineers responsible for building and repairing roads and bridges, laying and clearing mines, etc. during military conflicts. It is located in the landscaped area referred to as SAPPER Grove. The design by Blair Remy Architects is in an important piece of terrain that includes an amphitheater surrounded by a brick wall inset with bronze plaques describing the acts of valor that earned each engineer the Medal of Honor. The memorial site includes paved walking paths and footbridges leading visitors to softscaped and hardscaped memorial nodes. Among the memorial nodes is included the design for three T-walls made of Missouri red granite, symbolic of the installation which is the home of this Army Engineering Regiment.
