ORIGINALLY BUILT IN 1911 AND ON THE NATIONAL HISTORIC REGISTER SINCE 1979, THE NEO-CLASSICAL 225 ROOM SKIRVIN HOTEL IS THE HEART & SOUL OF DOWN-TOWN OKLAHOMA CITY. PLANS INCLUDE MARBLE FLOORING AND GOLD GILDED COLUMNS TO WELCOME GUESTS TO THE FOUR-STAR HOTEL. VISITORS CAN RELIVE THE GRANDEUR AND PAST HISTORY OF BOTH THE HOTEL AND CITY WHILE EXPLORING THE SKIRVIN MUSEUM. OTHER FEATURES WERE TO INCLUDE SPECIALTY SHOPS, AN ART GALLERY, BANK AND A TURN- OF-THE-CENTURY COFFEE SHOP. COMPLETE RENOVATION OF THE GRAND BALLROOM PLANNED FOR A FULL STAGE WITH DRESSING ROOMS AND STORAGE, FOUR SPIRAL STAIRCASES, AND A HORSESHOE-SHAPED BALCONY WITH COLONNADE. THE GRAND BALLROOM WAS ALSO TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO BE SUBDIVIDED TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL MEETING SPACES. THE CARPET ENTAILED SIX MOTIFS, EACH CENTERED ON A BAY, SO THAT WHEN THE BALLROOM WAS SUBDIVIDED, EACH AREA WOULD STILL HAVE A COMPLETE RUG DESIGN. EXPANSION ALSO INCLUDED THE RENOVATION OF A PARKING LOT UNDERNEATH THE GRAND BALLROOM TO HOUSE EMPLOYEE FACILITIES AND THE ROOM SERVICE AND CATERING KITCHEN. ONE RESTAURANT WITH ITS OWN KITCHEN WAS ALSO INCLUDED IN THE PLANS AS WELL AS A SWIMMING POOL IN THE BASEMENT. A NEW ENTRYWAY WITH A DRIVE-THROUGH PORT COCHERE WAS TO SET THE STAGE FOR “ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT REHABILITATION PROJECTS IN THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA IN MANY YEARS,” A QUOTE FROM MELVENA HEISCH, DEPUTY FOR THE STATE HISTORIC PRESERVATION OF OKLAHOMA.
