THE ARCHITECTS PROVIDED FULL DESIGN SERVICES FOR THE BRAC COMPLEX COMPOSED OF THREE BUILDINGS, PARKING AND GREEN SPACE. THE DESIGN SOLUTION EVOLVED FROM THE RENOVATION OF TWO BUILDINGS ON EITHER SIDE OF A NEW TWO-STORY FACILITY, AND INTEGRATION OF ALL THREE TO FORM A COMPLEX WHICH ENHANCES ITS COMPATIBILITY WITH THE COMMUNITY OF BUILDINGS OF SIMILAR FORM, STYLE, MATERIAL AND DETAILS.
THE TOTAL COMPLEX IS 56,142 SF ENCOMPASSING 29,142 SF FOR BUILDING 6 ADD, THE NEW FACILITY WHICH HAD TO BE PHYSICALLY TIED TO THE EXISTING BUILDING 6; 17,400 SF OF ALTERATION TO THE EXISTING BUILDING 6; AND 9,600 RENOVATION OF THE EXISTING BUILDING 55. CONSISTENT WITH THE ARCHITECTURAL COMPATIBILITY PLAN (ACP), THE DESIGN FEATURES A CONTEMPORARY INTERPRETATION OF TRADITIONAL ELEMENTS OF THE HISTORIC VERNACULAR OF THE FLORIDA COAST.
THE COMPLETED FACILITY ACCOMMODATES THE CONSOLIDATED SQUADRON OPERATIONS, AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE UNIT AND LIFE SUPPORT REQUIREMENTS FOR SIXTEEN KC-135 AIRCRAFT. IT ALSO SERVES AS A COLLATERAL GROUP HEADQUARTERS FACILITY FOR ACTIVE PERSONNEL, AND IS JOINTLY USED BY BOTH ACTIVE AND RESERVE PERSONNEL.
